Through the years…

Proud to have served with the South Green Lake Volunteer Fire Dept!

Retirement makes me smile!

While I have some background in graphic arts and media resources, (which I studied in college in the mid-70’s), my first and enduring passion is photography.  My fridge seldom had any food in it back then, but I always had a few rolls of Kodachrome ready to go. Haha!

In my early years I spent some time photographing weddings, life-style portraits, restaurant ads etc. - I had fun with it, paid for my tuitions and met some fine people along the way, but in the end I decided that I preferred to keep photography strictly as a hobby.

An early ‘80s advertising photo I shot of the Diamond family, owners of the very popular Seven Seas Restaurant in North Vancouver.

Making hearts - a lifestyle portrait

My photography went dormant for a while in the late 80’s/early 90’s… what with career building, kids, mortgage, and much more going on, but I came back just in time for the digital revolution around 2000.  I love everything about the digital age: the technology is awesome, and my love for photography was rekindled by it.

Some highlights along the way: In 2020 I penned a short children’s story about one of my grandsons (see my blog) that has been accepted into Vancouver’s North Shore Public Library system, which is kind of a cool legacy. I also managed to have a photo published in a National Geographic Magazine story, (2017) and I have had several other images selected as Editors’ Favourite on Nat Geo's “Your Shot” community. (See my gallery).

Now retired, I continue to contribute photography to various electronic and print publications from time to time, such as birding E-Books, the Conair Aviation Calendar, multiple images in the 2023 Cariboo/Chilcotin Coast Field guide put out by the BC Provincial Government. I also placed 2nd in the Canadian Wildlife Federation contest 2023 (flora category). Life is full of plot twists, and who knows what comes next?

I learn new things about the art of photography constantly. Whether it be technical, artistic, scientific, software or hardware, I love to talk shop with others to share knowledge, ideas, techniques, and what have you.

I see photography as being a record of my journey through life. If I happen to entice a viewer to walk along with me through my pictures, then so much the better!  For me, it’s all about trying to become a better story-teller.
